Peace be unto you my gracious nieces and nephews! I am your Uncle Willie, the uncle you never knew you had but I have been with you all of the time. I was considered to be the black sheep in my family, but that was only because I always did my own thing. Some called me reckless and unstable, but the times that I ventured out to find what the world had to offer has given me insights into what is most important of all things that may exist.
Upon my return to the town where I grew up, I found out that one of my former girlfriends was getting married to one of my best friends. The funny thing about the wedding was that at the reception I discovered that both a niece and a nephew of mine have been troubled at the fact that they have never reached the intensity and prosperity of a relationship that would bring them to a personal involvement in such an event as a wedding.
Take for example my niece Rachelle. When she found out that I was her uncle, she welcomed me with open arms and listened to all of my adventures with hungry ears. But her smiles turned upside down to frowns whenever she began to talk about her own happiness. She never found a relationship that made her feel whole and truly desired. Although she had the phone numbers and addresses of many men that otherwise would be considered great candidates for marriage, Rachelle never was able to sustain a nurturing relationship with any of them. It even seemed that the men would get to the point of proposing to marry her, but end the relationship while the wedding plans were being made. But as my first niece that I have met upon my return, I find her worthy of the love she desires. Our first experiences together were the total opposite from that I had with my nephew Tony.
My nephew Tony is a handsome man only a few years younger than myself. His mother was much older than me and as a result, she and I never really had that much in common outside of our family. She had already moved away and had gotten married before I was born and Tony is actually less than two years younger than myself. I believe that this is where the relationship between Tony and myself got off on the wrong foot. For some reason, Tony feels that there has to be some type of competition between us. But in his wisdom, he has confessed that he too like Rachelle would like to have a relationship to last longer than sitcoms appear on television.
Tony has said that it was always a big joke between his friends and himself that his relationships seemed more like a pilot episode of television programs that were never seen on the air compared to the never ending news broadcast relationships of his friends. As a result, he was always attending their weddings and being the best man or a groomsman but never a groom. Tony is very similar to me and this is where I chose to let our relationship develop. If it develops over the things we have in common, then the things that are not alike will decrease over a period of time.
Although Tony and Rachelle and relatives of mine, they are not related to each other. I first thought that playing matchmaker would benefit both of them, but I remembered how my own past experiences in being matched up with someone would always turn up putting the most sour taste in my mouth for the matchmaker as well as the woman to whom I would be introduced. If things change in the world of matchmaking, then they will have to change on their own without my involvement.
At the wedding of my former girlfriend and best friend, I had a conversation with Tony and Rachelle separately and asked both of them just to drop by on a Sunday afternoon after attending church. Tony at first disagreed because of the games on television, but I told him that if he wants to achieve something that he never had before, then he would have to do something that he never had before. To my surprise, he got there before Rachelle did and stayed longer as well. When they got to my home, I thought it was a very good icebreaker when they asked why did I invite them over and I responded with "Just because I love you and you should take a chill with your Uncle Will". Since they are both single, I felt that it would be very necessary to tell them the difference between a soulmate and a lose-control date. This is where you and I will chill with your Uncle Will on our next moment together.
Keep your mind free from negative thoughts!
